16.08.2019 | Iran FURY: Russia backs Tehran as it warns 'enemies must leave' or face 'humiliating exit'
Source - The Daily Express

“The era of plundering the region's assets is over and enemies must leave the region as soon as possible, otherwise, they will experience a humiliating exit.”

In the someday of the release of the oil tanker, Iran held joint naval exercises with Russia in the Persian Gulf.

Russia has opposed the US led coalition in the Persian Gulf and also signed a joint memorandum with Iran with the intention of strengthening their ties.

In the face of the tanker being by Gibraltar, the US had tried to submit a last-minute plea in order to stop the release of the tanker.

In a major development, Gibraltar released the Iranian oil tanker, Grace 1 that was captured by Royal Marines last month. Quickly following that, the head of Iran’s navy warned all countries must leave the region. Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said: “The Islamic maritime resistance is being formed and developed.

Following the release, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said that Iran must abide by certain assurance that the tanker must not travel to Syria.

The FCO described Syria as a “regime that has deployed chemical weapons against its own people”.

In the wake of the failed US attempt, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif condemned the US.

In a released statement, Mr Zarif said: “Having failed to accomplish its objectives through its #EconomicTerrorism—including depriving cancer patients of medicine— the US attempted to abuse the legal system to steal our property on the high seas.

“This piracy attempt is indicative of Trump admin's contempt for the law.”

Iran’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hamid Baeidinejad also said that the US faces “humiliation” with “its frantic last-minute efforts”.

Iran has increased the pressure on its rivals and recently accused the US as being the “principal cause of insecurity in the region”.

Despite the release of the Iranian tanker, the UK-flagged tanker, Stena Impero still remains detained by Tehran last month.
