The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed to “take a different and tough step of revenge” after promising to conduct “the most devastating offensive” in Iranian history.
Iran is reeling following the death of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed in a barrage of strikes by Israel and the US in the early hours of Saturday.
Following Tehran’s renewed threats, Donald Trump said he would strike Iran “with a force that has never been seen before”, warning the country it “better not” follow through.
The US and Israel have continued to bombard Iranian cities, including Tehran, Bushehr and Qom, where the country’s nuclear facilities are located.
Iran continued to retaliate. Correspondents in Dubai reported a fresh round of explosions on Sunday morning after several people were injured after an explosion at the city’s international airport. Strikes were also reported for a second day in Doha, Qatar and Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Iraqis attempted to storm the fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, where the US embassy is located, following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei. Protesters were filmed throwing stones at security forces, who responded with tear gas.
