The US president issued a furious rebuke to Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday night, calling him “f------ crazy” in an expletive-laden phone call demanding that Israel call off strikes on Beirut.

But the call appeared to have been ignored, as drones buzzed over southern Lebanon this morning and the IDF ordered residents in Nabatieh to evacuate.

A Christian dentist and his son and daughter were killed, as well as two Syrian plant nursery workers, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said.

On Monday night, the US president told the Israeli prime minister that everybody hated him and his country, as he warned Mr Netanyahu not to do anything to jeopardise negotiations with Tehran.

Iran had earlier said that it was suspending peace talks until Israel stopped bombing Lebanon and Gaza.

After the call, Mr Trump said Mr Netanyahu cancelled strikes on Beirut and that Hezbollah had agreed to not attack Israel.

A second round of talks between Israel and Lebanon is scheduled for today and tomorrow in Washington, with Lebanese negotiators seeking a full ceasefire.

Iran has insisted a ceasefire in Lebanon remains a key condition for any peace deal with the US.
