Hamas has warned of “repercussions” if Israel continues to block displaced Palestinians from returning home to northern Gaza.
In a sign of the fragility of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, the terror group accused Israel of failing to stick to its end of the bargain by continuing to close Al-Rashid Street and prevent Palestinians from travelling north.
Israel said it was keeping the street closed because Hamas had failed to fulfil its pledge to release civilians it was holding hostage before soldiers.
Hamas released four young women soldiers on Saturday morning - Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag - who were stationed at the border to monitor activity there.
Israel said Hamas should have released Arbel Yehud, 29, a civilian hostage.
A Hamas official said the group had informed mediators that she was alive and would be freed next Saturday. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Palestinians in Gaza would not be allowed to cross back to the northern part of the territory until she was released.
